Description
Weinmannia trichosperma, or Tineo, is a striking evergreen tree that can grow up to 30 meters tall in the temperate rainforests of southern Chile and Argentina. It has glossy, dark green leaves that are deeply serrated and come in an alternately arranged pattern. In spring, Tineo produces showy clusters of small, white to cream-colored flowers with prominent stamens, attracting a variety of pollinators, including bees and hummingbirds. These are followed by small, spiny fruits. Tineo thrives in moist, well-drained soils and is a vital component of native forest ecosystems, often found growing in the understory alongside other large trees like Nothofagus species.
