Description

Tiaca is a slender, evergreen tree native to the temperate rainforests of southern Chile. It grows up to 20 meters tall and is known for its aromatic, toothed leaves that release a lemony scent when crushed. Small white to pinkish flowers bloom in late spring and attract a range of pollinators.

Range

Endemic to southern Chile and Argentina, mainly from the Maule Region to Aysén.

Uses

  • Medicinal: Traditionally used in Mapuche medicine for treating respiratory ailments, fevers, and digestive issues. The leaves are made into infusions.
  • Aromatic: The crushed leaves’ lemony scent makes them popular in herbal teas.
